Heuchera

Heuchera

These diverse perennials are wonderful shade plants that will add colour and interest to the darker corners of your garden. They offer a wide range of colourful foliage all year round, that will lift any part of your garden and will produce wispy flowers on long stems in the spring in to early summer. Heuchera likes shade or semi-shade best but there are some varieties that will grow in full sun as well, they are not particularly fussy about their soil type but they don’t like to get too wet or too dry. Growing from a crown at ground level, the foliage is this plants main attraction going right across the spectrum from purples, reds and oranges in to limes, yellows and greens. As a rule of thumb with Heucheras, the colour of the leaves usually gives you a good clue as to where best to plant your plant; the darker the leaves the better at withstanding the suns rays. It is best to improve your soil before planting by adding plenty of organic matter and choosing well-drained soil, watering regularly but sparingly. After a couple of years your Heuchera may start to become rather clumped and leggy. When you part the leaves, you’ll discover woody stems that lead back to the crown of the plant. To prune, cut the stems back to a just above buds of fresh growth at the top of the crown. Here at Woldens we have a diverse selection of these wonderful impactful plants ready for you to come along and grab  for your garden adding that splash of colour to your shady spaces 🌿🍁
