Peony

Peony

From the week beginning the 26th April it is National Gardening Week, so why not grab yourself a picturesque Peony to add to your garden. The attractive leaves of a Peony emerge with rich reddish tones, these leaves often colour well in autumn. Following these leaves you will get a splash of colour as the flower bursts into life in a range of colours from pink, white, red, cream and even yellow. The flowers of a peony have a slight scent that gives an added bonus to these amazing flowers. They like fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny sheltered position without competition from neighbouring plants is best. We advise you stake the plants as soon as growth emerges in spring for structural support and the ants you’ll often see crawling over the unopened flower buds in spring cause no problems. Once a Peony has completed its season, remove the dead flowers as they fade and then cut back the plant as the foliage dies down in autumn. Here at Woldens we have a mass of different varieties and colours to choose from, so why not come along and get yourself a Peony that every garden needs 🌸
